if you accidentally damage a friends car while helping them out of a jam will they win a law suit against you?

My hubby went boating with a friend. The friend's boat fell off the trailer because friend didn't fasten the boat correctly. Friend couldn't lift it back onto trailer so my hubby leaned against his SUV and picked up boat and sat it back on the hitch. The back of the SUV got a dent and now the 'friend' is harrasing him to pay for damages. He said his wife filed a law suit today. will they win?

Why don't you suggest that perhaps your husband hurt his back lifting that boat, and you would like them to pay for any medical expenses and lost work he might incur, due to that injury? Maybe they will think a little longer about filing a property damage civil suit.
By the way, they are under no obligation to file any claim against their insurance, although any judge worth their salt would berate them for not doing so. Wouldn't matter, though, they would still win the suit. However, if you have homeowners insurance, YOUR insurance should cover any property damage you cause. Why don't YOU file a claim?
