Can I tow a travel trailer that weighs 5180 lbs (UVW) with a Jeep Grand Cherokee inline V-6 / 4.0 engine?

I have a 26' Forest River Grand Surveyor camper that weighs 5180 uvw. My Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD has a tow capacity of 5,000 lbs with a class 4 hitch. I also have a weight distribution package and also electric brakes, I was just wondering will this be too much weight to carry safely with this type of vehicle.

The maximum towing capacity for that vehicle is only 3500 pounds for what I found out which to me is low but at the same time I would call and recheck this with your dealer and if it is 5000 pounds then you will be okay since you are using the weight distribution package and electric brakes.

Good luck and drive safe, also make sure that you have a transmission and engine oil cooler as well.

Update from the jeep site plus I called my local jeep dealer and they said the same so call your local jeep dealer and see what they say and as always good luck...........

To a trailer hitch specialist Curt versus Drawtite, Hidden Hitch for Honda Civic?

I have a 2006 Honda Civic 2 door and am going to install a Class I 1.25" trailer hitch, only to use it for installing a 2-bike carrier. The Curt # 11437 is the ONLY hitch for my car that is installed with 2 bolts on each side of the frame. The other brands only have one opening for 1 bolt on each side of the frame. Another advantage of the Curt is that it has a slight "V shape" making it sit under the car further and not be so noticeable. The Drawtite and Hidden Hitch brands look like they have a "straighter" line underneath the car making them look more noticeable. My question is, does having 2 bolts to attach to the frame on each side make it stronger? I would think it does. Thank you for your help.
I looked closer at the Drawtite 24763. It also has the "V shape" making for being less noticeable under the car. But it only has one hole for one bolt for installing on each side of the frame.

What I would do (since I work there) is call your local U-Haul and ask them to look up the hitch for your car and see what it looks like and how much it is (it's probably cheaper than the ones you found).

If both hitches are rated for the same weight then it doesn't matter, also it's only a bike rack, not a 36' trailer, so go with the least expensive.
