I have two-inch trailer hitch ball on the back of my 1992 Ford Ranger. How much weight can I pull with it?

The ball is set right in the midde of the bumper, and installed by the factory. There is no welded hitch like you see on custom installed. I'm wodering if I can tow a trailer with the one atteched to the bumper, or if I'm asking for trouble. Any idea what and how much weight I can pull? If I pull a 1,600 landscape trailer will I rip off the bumper?

First, you need to look in your Owner's guide to determine the exact capabilities of your truck, but I will give an overview here. The towing rig with the highest capacity will have the largest engine available, the deepest gear available, and automatic transmission and be two-wheel-drive.

On the other end of the spectrum, the truck capable of the least amount of towing weight will have the smallest engine, the weakest gearing (numerically lowest), a manual transmission and four-wheel-drive.

I would check your door tag, the information about your vehicle which may include towing capacity of the drive train (engine, transmission, rear end) and brakes. It wouldn't do any good to get a heavy bumper if your truck is only rated for 1,600 lbs. I wouldn't try to tow anything higher than what's rated on the sticker. The existing bumper will be able to handle what's on the sticker.

Is the 1,600lb trailer the empty weight? How much when it's loaded up? You also need to take into account what you have in the bed of the truck too.

Trailer hitch is hard to get on and off ball?

Bought a trailer to haul furniture. I think the hitch on the truck sits to high, for the trailer to come down easy on the ball. I think they have hitches that drop some . Would this help?

The trailer should sit fairly level when hooked up. If the angle is too great it will cause binding. A drop hitch is probably in order.
