Trailer problem please help!?
Ok so today i bought a horse trailer from my dads friend and as i was talking to my dad, he loaded up the trailer and hitched it up and everything, now i don't know how to unhitch the trailer, i wasn't paying good enough attention. Its a Bumper Pull (2 inch ball hitch) and its and older model, probably 70s and i need to know how to take it off, and i can't call anyone because its almost midnight, and the person i purchased it from lives 4 hours away. Please can someone explain to me how to take it off!!!???
I am not entirely sure as this trailer is older than I am but look to see if there is a pin you can take out and then a lever pops to the side. Put blocks behind the trailers wheels so it doesn't role back and put a couple pieces of flat 2x4s underneath where the wheel will rolle down. Usually it is behind the hitch. then there will be a cranking lever that you use to crank it around in a circle *you will know if you go the wrong way and it should lift off of the ball. hopefully this helps....

Finding a cheap ball hitch two horse trailer?
I want to start eventing soon and maybe taking my filly to halter classes to get her back into the show scene. I want to adopt a 17 hand TB gelding to event as well, and I would like to be able to trailer him to a local cross country course for schooling. Any way my first question is, where can I find a very cheap 2 horse trailer? And, do you think the Thoroughbred would fit in there with my filly, or would I have to trailer them separately (I don't think I would be taking them any where together)? Thanks for all help!
You can find a trashed trailer and fix it yourself....for next to nothing.
But you better be a welder or know how to rewire electrical stuff.
Otherwise, you need to think about your horse's safety as a #1 priority and save your money until you can pay $4000 or so for a used but in excellent shape trailer.
There are trailers that are 7 feet high and wide...these will fit a TB. Anything smaller is too small. So, because of that, you'll have to look at the $4000+ trailers.
Tall big trailers cost more.
Important things to look for:
flooring (is it aluminum? is it wood? has the wood been replaced?)
welding spots that are weakened with rust?
tires?
electrical (brakes, lights)
emergency brake system good?
chains? it's now illegal to not have a trailer with chains incase it gets unhooked from your truck, these chains keep the trailer from rolling backward and causing a wreck.
