Doggy-doors...pros/cons?

My 7 month old pup(I can call her a pup until she's a year right?) greatly prefers the outdoors, but as of now she spends most of her outdoor time in the front yard on a leash.. Lately the idea popped into my head, instead of worrying about when she should go out/in(since she has issues letting me know) I could just put in one of those handy-dandy little flaps?
My backdoor leads directly onto a porch, with steps leading down to my medium-sized backyard.. the fence is large enough to contain her, and keep other dogs out.. I was just wondering what some pros and cons are? Other than the drag of her being able to track mud all over the house.. Hm.

I call my dogs pups all the time and they are 15 years, 2 years, and about 18 months.

Cons: -Other animals can enter your home as well. We get snakes
-Doggy door flapping int the middle of the night is loud.
-If it is wet, they bring the wet and mud in without you having a chance to wipe paws
-Dog doors allow the cold and heat to come in easier than a glass door.

Overall I love it. So far we've only had snakes come in...and they have been small and I live in an area that backs up to fields. I worry about raccoons and other critters, but so far so good.
