Why is my truck fan so loud?

I just put in a new fan clutch into my 1991 S10 today. I had two choices at autozone for fan clutches. Heavy Duty or Severe Duty. They didn't' have the heavy duty one in stock, so I took the severe duty one. This thing is so loud and moves so much air it is crazy. It literally blows leaves off the driveway 3 feet away from the truck. Also when I floor the truck, it sounds like a air plane taking off, and I get strange stares from people on sidewalks and parking lots. Did I get a bad clutch, or is this the way the severe duty ones are. I am afraid I am going to break the fan blades, and bust the water pump with this one.

once the truck is moving that clutch should kick the fan off and it shouldn't be running at all, I think you got a defective fan clutch.
