Deodorising a floor mat help?

Last winter we had a cotton mat dry cleaned before storing it in it's plastic wrap for the summer. Last week we opened it up and laid it down. It wasn't until the second day that I noticed that it smelled, not of perfume, but a sickly sweet odour like biscuits had been crushed into it and left for a week. It's too late to return it, even though it cost a lot to clean. How can I get rid of the smell? I was going to put the hose over it and dry it in the yard. It is 150cm square.
